Brussels, 24 April (LaPresse) – "From the outset, we have consistently called for de-escalation and negotiations in full compliance with international law and international humanitarian law. The recent announcement of an extension to the ceasefire with Iran is a positive step. Negotiations must aim to find a lasting solution to end this war and address the fundamental concerns. The Strait of Hormuz must be reopened immediately, without restrictions and without tolls, in full compliance with international law and the principle of freedom of navigation; this is vital for the whole world." This was stated by European Council President Antonio Costa at a press conference following the informal summit in Cyprus. ‘Diplomacy,’ he added, ‘is the only sustainable path to follow, and the European Union is ready to contribute to all ongoing efforts.’
