Milan, June 14 (LaPresse) – The draft memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States would include a series of agreements on economic sanctions, the nuclear programme and security in the Strait of Hormuz, according to Reuters on its website, citing a senior Iranian official. The document provides that Tehran would immediately reopen the Strait of Hormuz to commercial traffic, while Washington would suspend the naval blockade on Iranian ports, with gradual implementation within 30 days. On the economic side, the United States would commit not to introduce new sanctions until a final agreement and to grant exemptions from oil sanctions for a set period, allowing Iran to sell oil and collect the proceeds. The possible release of around $25 billion in frozen Iranian assets is also envisaged, through direct transfers, credit lines and regional cooperation. The draft would also include the preparation of a reconstruction and development plan for Iran to be defined within 60 days. On nuclear issues, Tehran would commit not to produce or acquire nuclear weapons and to keep its programme unchanged during the negotiation phase, with no further uranium enrichment or expansion of infrastructure. The United States would have accepted the possibility of diluting stocks of highly enriched uranium as part of an overall agreement still to be finalised within 60 days.
