Milan, 4 June (LaPresse) – Russia has gained an advantage in the drone war over NATO countries and could seek to exploit a ‘window of opportunity’ by the end of 2028 to invade the Baltic states. This is the warning from the head of the Latvian armed forces, General Kaspars Pudans, who made the statement to the Financial Times (FT). According to Pudans, Moscow’s advantage does not lie in possessing better technology, but in its ability to produce drones on a large scale and adapt them rapidly in wartime. “Their advantage is the scalability of drones,” Pudans said. According to the head of the Latvian armed forces, Russia could exploit the slowness of European rearmament, given that most military modernisation programmes are not expected to come into effect before around 2029. “If I were in the Kremlin, I would say that if we are to do anything, we should do it by the end of 2028,” Pudans stated.
