Milan, 3 June (LaPresse) – A flight operated by the Israeli airline Israir was prevented from landing in the Slovenian capital, Ljubljana, today. According to Israeli media reports, the aircraft circled the area for a while before landing in Croatia. Israir’s CEO, Uri Sirkis, told Channel 13 that the incident “constitutes a blatant violation of the European Union’s aviation agreements”. The Foreign Ministry has condemned the incident, calling it “completely unacceptable”, citing Slovenia’s opposition to the Israeli government’s policies as one of the reasons for the flight’s failure to land. “Israel has made it clear to the Slovenian authorities that this is an absolutely unacceptable move,” the Foreign Ministry stated, “a new government is expected to be formed in Slovenia shortly to replace the outgoing one, which is considered hostile, and Israel expects a significant improvement in relations between the two countries.”
