Washington (USA), 16 May (LaPresse) – US President Donald Trump has stated that US and Nigerian forces killed an Islamic State leader in Nigeria during an operation carried out on Friday. Trump announced the joint operation in Africa’s most populous country in a late-night social media post, providing few details. He said that Abu Bakr al-Mainuki was the Islamic State’s number two globally and “thought he could hide in Africa, but he didn’t know we had sources keeping us informed of what he was doing”. Al-Mainuki was considered a key figure in the organisation and financing of ISIS and was planning attacks against the United States and its interests, according to an official who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to share sensitive information.
