Paris (France), May 13 (LaPresse) French prosecutors have asked judges to sentence former President Sarkozy to seven years in prison and a €300,000 fine over allegations that the late Libyan leader Gaddafi secretly financed his victorious 2007 presidential campaign. The prosecutor's office has asked the three judges hearing the appeal to find Sarkozy guilty of corruption, illegal campaign financing, and concealing the embezzlement of Libyan public funds, three charges from which he was acquitted in the first instance. A separate request would ban him from holding public office for five years. “Nicolas Sarkozy is innocent, and we will prove it in fifteen days," Sarkozy's lawyer said.
