Rome, 12 May (LaPresse) – US President Donald Trump is reportedly growing increasingly irritated by Iran’s stance in the nuclear negotiations and is said to be giving more serious consideration, compared to recent weeks, to the possibility of new military operations. This is according to sources close to the talks, who say the tycoon has expressed strong impatience with the continued closure of the Strait of Hormuz and the internal divisions within the Iranian leadership, seen as an obstacle to concrete concessions from Tehran. This is reported by CNN. Trump described Iran’s latest response to the talks as “totally unacceptable” and “stupid”, fuelling doubts among several US officials as to whether the Islamic Republic is genuinely intent on negotiating in earnest. According to some sources, various strategic approaches are being debated within the US administration. One faction, supported by some Pentagon officials, is pushing for a tougher line, with possible targeted strikes aimed at further weakening Tehran and forcing it to return to the negotiating table in a more conciliatory manner. Other officials, however, continue to believe it is necessary to leave room for diplomacy.
