(LaPresse) – “I wish to express my deep gratitude to you, dear Comrade Kim Jong-un, and to all those who have contributed to the completion of such a major project in the shortest possible time, on the occasion of the anniversary of the liberation of the Kursk region from the invaders.” This was written by Russian President Vladimir Putin in a telegram on the occasion of the opening ceremony of the Memorial Complex and Museum of Military Feats of Heroes of Overseas Military Operations in Pyongyang, according to the Interfax news agency. ‘Fighting side by side with their Russian comrades-in-arms, the Korean soldiers and officers demonstrated exceptional courage and genuine selflessness, earning themselves undying glory. Their unparalleled heroism will remain forever in the hearts of every Russian citizen,’ Putin added. The memorial, inaugurated today, is intended to perpetuate the memory of the heroism of the soldiers of the Korean People’s Army and the sacrifices made for their shared victory, the head of state said. Putin expressed his confidence that the memorial would become “a visible symbol of the friendship and unity of our peoples”.
