Tokyo (Japan), 20 Apr. (LaPresse/AP) – A powerful earthquake has been recorded off the northern coast of Japan and the Japan Meteorological Agency has issued a tsunami warning for the region. According to the agency, the quake, with a preliminary magnitude of 7.4, struck off the coast of Sanriku in northern Japan at 16:53 local time, at a depth of around 10 kilometres below the sea surface. Japanese public broadcaster NHK reports that a tsunami up to 3 metres high could hit the area shortly.
