London (United Kingdom), 19 April (LaPresse/AP) – British police said today that they are investigating whether a series of arson attacks on Jewish sites in London were carried out on behalf of Iranian instigators. The Metropolitan Police said that counter-terrorism officers are investigating the attacks on synagogues and other sites linked to the Jewish community, as well as an attack on a Persian-language media company. No one was injured in the fires, the latest of which, last night, caused minor damage to a synagogue in north London. Assistant Deputy Commissioner Vicki Evans said responsibility for the attacks had been claimed online by a group calling itself Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamia. “We are aware of media reports suggesting that this group may have links to Iran. As you would expect, we will continue to look into this as the investigation progresses,” she said, “I have spoken previously about the Iranian regime’s use of criminal proxies, and we are assessing whether this tactic is being used here in London.”
