Turin, 18 Apr. (LaPresse) – Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has issued a statement to mark the anniversary of the founding of the Islamic Republic (1 April) and the birthday of his late father, which falls tomorrow. In the statement released via Telegram, Mojtaba Khamenei praised the Iranian military’s defence of Iran against the United States. Against the backdrop of renewed hostilities in the Strait of Hormuz, he warned that the “valiant Iranian navy is ready to inflict fresh and severe defeats on its enemies”. This was reported by Sky News. The Supreme Leader assumed command after his father and predecessor, Ali Khamenei, was killed in a US attack at the start of the war. Mojtaba Khamenei is also believed to have been wounded. He has not been seen or heard in public since then, and his statements are issued only in writing or read aloud.
