Rome, June 8 (LaPresse) – No surprises. Florentino Pérez will remain president of Real Madrid for another four years. The club’s television channel announced that Pérez defeated challenger Enrique Riquelme in the elections, the first since 2006, with 62% of the vote. A victory with immediate implications for the club that will pave the way for José Mourinho’s return as Real Madrid head coach. Mourinho, who managed Real Madrid from 2010 to 2013, played a prominent role in Pérez’s election campaign. “We will continue working to ensure that Real Madrid keeps winning more titles,” Pérez told supporters during the victory celebration, held shortly before 1 a.m. The 79-year-old Pérez has already led Real Madrid from 2000 to 2006 and from 2009 to the present day. Under his leadership, Real Madrid has won seven of its 15 European Cups, a record.
