Milan, 27 October (LaPresse) – Despite his victory at the ATP 500 tournament in Vienna, Jannik Sinner's hopes of finishing the year at the top of the world rankings are hanging by a thread. Even if he wins the last Masters 1000 of the season in Paris and the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin without losing a match, the South Tyrolean champion would reach a maximum of 11,500 points. Carlos Alcaraz, the current world number one, with 10 points guaranteed in Paris, starts from a secure base of 11,050 points, 450 less than Sinner. To retain the top spot, the Spaniard would therefore only need to reach the final in Paris (650 points) if Sinner wins the last two tournaments. To keep the suspense intact until Turin, Alcaraz would have to lose in the semi-finals at most (400 points). He would then finish with 11,440 points, 60 fewer than Sinner. This would force Alcaraz to win at least one of the three matches in the Turin tournament to finish 2025 as number one, regardless of Sinner's result in the Finals. The best-case scenario for Sinner remains that his rival reaches the quarter-finals at Bercy (200 points) at most and wins only one match in Turin (200) without reaching the semi-finals. Difficult, but not impossible.
