Rome, 11 June (LaPresse) – "Mr Pozzolo, I am frankly sorry that you have changed your mind on the issue of the national interest, because what we are doing to safeguard the national interest is exactly what is set out in our manifesto. A programme for which you and others were elected within the ranks of the centre-right in this Parliament. Nevertheless, on no fewer than six occasions you have voted against a vote of confidence in this government, alongside Schlein, Conte, Renzi and co. For those listening, voting against a vote of confidence in a government means voting to bring that government down. Exactly, quite right. I believe, colleague, that doing what serves the left is never defending the national interest, and so please do not speak to me of the true right, because the true right is never subservient to the left.’ So said the Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni, during her replies following the general debate on the Prime Minister’s statement in the Chamber of Deputies ahead of the upcoming European Council.
