Milan, 15 Apr. (LaPresse) Milan, 15 Apr. (LaPresse) ‘Italian journalists are going on strike’ on 16 April, ‘for the third time’. ‘We do not take this decision lightly,’ states the National Press Federation in a press release, ‘but we believe it is necessary to raise awareness of what is happening in our sector’. ‘The contract signed with the publishers of the Fieg expired 10 years ago. ’For the Federation, “the dignity and future of journalism depend on contract renewal, wage recovery and the defence of rights that are not privileges, but the means by which we can resist threats, both inside and outside newsrooms”."

‘The Fieg publishers have highlighted the need for a substantial change to contractual rules to restore efficiency and productivity and adequately address the new challenges of the market,’ writes Fieg. ‘The publishers,’ the statement continues, ‘want to restore conditions of economic sustainability so as not to further damage both companies and professional standards.’
