Lebanon: media report IDF preparing for offensive against Hezbollah in Nabatieh

Turin, 11 June (LaPresse) – According to an official from the Israel Defence Forces, the army is preparing to launch an offensive against Hezbollah in the town of Nabatieh, in southern Lebanon, one of the Shiite group’s strongholds. This is reported by The Times of Israel. According to military reports, the IDF’s 36th Division has pushed deeper into southern Lebanon in recent days and is now operating on the outskirts of Arnoun, a village a few kilometres from Nabatieh. The division, a military source explained, carried out covert operations along the Litani River prior to the offensive, constructing a new bridge to cross the river in a valley not monitored by Hezbollah. Once the bridge was built, armoured vehicles were able to cross it and advance rapidly northwards without being detected. Depending on the decisions of Israeli leaders, the source added, the division could advance further north into Nabatieh, or head west and continue operations along the Litani River.
