Beirut (Lebanon), June 7 (LaPresse/AP) – Israel carried out airstrikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs a few days after the ceasefire agreement came into effect. According to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the attacks were retaliation for earlier shelling by Hezbollah against northern Israel. Hezbollah has not claimed responsibility for those attacks. Israel has struck the densely populated urban districts twice since the first agreement between Lebanon and Israel came into force on April 17. Attacks in southern Lebanon continue on a daily basis, with clashes between Hezbollah fighters and Israeli troops. Residents reported hearing three explosions in the area.
