Romania: President Dan appoints Tomac as Prime Minister

Rome, 4 June (LaPresse) – The President of Romania, Nicusor Dan, has appointed his adviser Eugen Tomac as Prime Minister, according to Romanian media reports. Tomac “possesses the independence, experience and values that make him suitable for the post of Prime Minister,” said Dan. “I fully understand the difficult situation we are facing, I know the expectations of the Romanian people and I am aware of the challenges we must overcome together. My vision is clear: Romania is at a juncture that calls for responsibility,” said the new Prime Minister. “Only in this way can we offer Romania the clear direction it needs. I will present to Parliament a government of specialists, a technical government, not a political one.” President Dan’s announcement comes a month after the end of the government led by Ilie Bolojan. On 5 May, the motion of no confidence against the executive was passed with 281 votes.
