Brussels, May 29 (LaPresse) – “I am very pleased to announce today that we can release 10 billion euros for Hungary” linked to the revised NRRP and “we have also been able to release the cohesion funds linked to conditionality, worth 4.2 billion euros” and Budapest “will gradually phase out public interest trusts and adopt legislation to address concerns regarding conflicts of interest and integrity rules. This is a major, long-awaited step forward for academic freedom. This will therefore unlock an additional €2.2 billion in cohesion funds for Hungary” regarding academic freedom. This was stated by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen at a press conference with Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar in Brussels.
