Ukraine: Zelensky has written a letter to Trump regarding the shortage of air defence systems

Milan, 27 May (LaPresse) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has sent a letter to US President Donald Trump warning him of the worsening shortage of air defence systems in Ukraine, particularly with regard to its capabilities to defend against ballistic missiles. “When it comes to air defence against missiles, we rely on our friends,” reads the letter, seen by the Kyiv Independent, “when it comes to defending ourselves against ballistic missiles, we rely almost exclusively on the United States.” “The current pace of deliveries through the PURL programme is no longer keeping pace with the real threat we face,” the letter continues, “I ask for your help in protecting Ukraine’s skies from Russian missiles.” “On behalf of the Ukrainian people, I respectfully ask the President and the US Congress to remain committed,” writes Zelensky, “and to help us secure this vital defence tool against Russian aggression: the Patriot PAC-3 missiles and additional systems, to stop Russian ballistic missiles and other Russian missile attacks.” “It is really difficult when it comes to ballistic defence,” added an official familiar with the matter, according to whom the Ukrainian ambassador to the US, Olha Stefanishyna, delivered the letter to the White House, House Speaker Mike Johnson and other members of Congress.
