Iran: Pezeshkian’s letter to the Pope: ‘Oppose the US’s unlawful demands’

Rome, 16 May (LaPresse) – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has written a letter to Pope Leo XIV in which, whilst appreciating the Pontiff’s moral stance on the war, he emphasised the need for the international community to adopt a realistic and fair approach and urged the nations of the world to “counter the illegal demands and the adventurous and dangerous policies of the United States”. The news was reported by the Iranian news agencies Tasnim and Mehr. “Iran’s resistance to the illegal demands of the US government amounts to resistance and defence of international law and high human values. Therefore, the international community is expected to address the illegal demands and the adventurous and dangerous policies of the United States by adopting a realistic and fair approach,” reads the letter reported by the Iranian press. “I wish to express once again the gratitude of the Iranian government and people for Your Excellency’s approach based on a ‘just peace’ and to emphasise that the Islamic Republic of Iran, whilst preserving its right to legitimate self-defence, will maintain its sincere commitment to dialogue and the resolution of problems through peaceful means, in accordance with the law and morality,” concluded Pezeshkian.
