Rome, 11 May (LaPresse) – ‘There are no plans’ for Venezuela to become the 51st US state. This was Delcy Rodríguez’s response to President Donald Trump’s statement, in which he revealed in an interview with Fox News that he was ‘seriously considering’ the possibility of making Caracas part of America. Leaving the hearing at the International Court of Justice, where she was defending Venezuela’s sovereignty over the Essequibo region, Delcy Rodríguez made it clear that the agenda with the United States is based on “cooperation and respect”. This was reported by Venezuelan media. “We have come to The Hague to defend our sovereignty and we will continue to do so,” said Rodriguez, Venezuela’s interim president following the capture of Nicolas Maduro on 2 January 2026. “We defend our heroes and our history of independence, of which we are proud,” added Rodriguez. She then concluded: “We are working on a cooperation programme with President Trump to promote collaboration between our countries.”
