Iran: Nobel laureate Narges Mohammadi transferred to a hospital in Tehran

Beirut (Lebanon), 10 May (LaPresse/AP) – Iranian lawyer Narges Mohammadi, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, has been transferred to a hospital in Tehran. The news was announced by her foundation. The transfer came several days after she fainted in prison and following days of appeals from her family. Mohammadi had been detained since December in Zanjan prison; she lost consciousness twice and was transferred to a local hospital on 1 May. The foundation explains that she has been granted a suspension of her prison sentence on bail, but a statement shared with the Associated Press emphasises that this is not enough and that Mohammadi requires ‘permanent specialist care’. “We must ensure she never returns to prison to serve the remaining 18 years of her sentence. The time has come to demand her unconditional release and the dropping of all charges,” the foundation states.
