Frankfurt (Germany), 5 May (LaPresse) – Maersk has confirmed that the merchant vessel Alliance Fairfax left the Persian Gulf on 4 May, passing through the Strait of Hormuz under US military escort, without incident and with the crew unharmed. “One of our merchant ships, the Alliance Fairfax, transited the Strait of Hormuz and left the Persian Gulf on 4 May. The transit took place without incident and all crew members are safe and unharmed,” a Maersk spokesperson told LaPresse. “The vessel was in the Persian Gulf at the time hostilities broke out between the United States and Iran in February 2026 and had been unable to leave the area due to ongoing security concerns,” he added. “More recently, we were contacted by the US military, who offered the ship the opportunity to leave the Gulf under protection. Following the coordination of a comprehensive security plan, the ship made the transit accompanied by US military assets,” the spokesperson continued. “We express our gratitude to the US armed forces for the professionalism and coordination that made the operation possible, and we look forward to the vessel’s return to normal commercial service,” the spokesperson added, noting that “following the departure of the Alliance Fairfax, we currently have six vessels (owned or chartered) in the Persian Gulf”.
