Iran, Paris: ‘US coalition for the Strait of Hormuz is not opposed to the Franco-British initiative’

Rome, 1 May (LaPresse) – French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot stated on Friday that the US plan for a coalition aimed at reopening the strategic Strait of Hormuz, at the heart of the conflict in Iran, would not conflict with the mission that France and the United Kingdom intend to carry out. This is according to reports in the French media. Speaking in Abu Dhabi at the end of a regional tour, the French Foreign Minister indicated that he had informed his Gulf allies of the Franco-British initiative, which is now at an ‘advanced’ stage. Barrot stated that the American project is not ‘of the same nature’ as the one launched by France and the UK, to which ‘several dozen’ countries have announced they will ‘certainly’ contribute, describing it as ‘complementary’ rather than ‘in competition’ with the Franco-British initiative.
