Bekasi (Indonesia), Apr 28 (LaPresse) – All victims of the train accident near Indonesia’s capital Jakarta, in which 14 people died, are women. The crash occurred yesterday when the long-distance train Argo Bromo Anggrek collided with the rear carriage of a commuter train stopped at Bekasi Timur station, near Jakarta. There were 240 people on board. The carriage involved in the impact was a women-only car, a common measure to prevent harassment. A total of 84 injured people were taken to hospital for treatment. The bodies of the victims were brought to hospital for further identification. Indonesia’s Ministry of Transport said in a statement that authorities believe the incident began when another train hit a taxi that had broken down near Bekasi Timur station. This led staff to stop a second train at the station, where it was then struck by a long-distance train.
