Iran, Pezeshkian: ‘No to negotiations under pressure and threats’

Turin, 26 Apr. (LaPresse) – Tehran ‘does not intend to engage in negotiations under pressure and threats’. This was stated by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in a telephone conversation with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to ‘discuss the latest regional developments, negotiations with the US and issues relating to the ceasefire’. During the conversation, the Mehr news agency reports, Pezeshkian ‘criticised the US’s continued violations and coercive behaviour both during the negotiations and throughout the ceasefire period’. The Iranian president “stated that the actions relating to the so-called maritime restrictions imposed by Washington against Iran constitute a clear violation of the ceasefire agreements and are not in line with the United Nations Charter. Such measures, coupled with threatening rhetoric, have heightened doubts about the US commitment to the diplomatic process”. ‘Reiterating Iran’s determination to defend its national security, Pezeshkian ’warned of the possible consequences of any further escalation by the United States and the Israeli regime for regional and global stability". The president, the statement continues, “also emphasised that Iran remains committed to building and strengthening relations with all neighbouring countries, including those along the southern shores of the Persian Gulf, on the basis of good neighbourliness and mutual respect. He expressed the hope that these states too would cooperate to promote regional peace and security, regardless of external interference”.
