Milan, 22 April (LaPresse/AP) – Voters in Virginia have approved a redistricting plan that could boost the Democrats’ chances of winning four additional seats in the House of Representatives in the US mid-term elections this November. The constitutional amendment narrowly won a vote among voters and marks a major blow to President Donald Trump, who last year sparked a national battle over redistricting by urging Republican officials in Texas to redraw boundaries to consolidate their majority in the state. But the referendum on redistricting in Virginia could help undo Republican gains elsewhere. “Virginia has just changed the trajectory of the 2026 mid-term elections,” said the Democratic Speaker of the State House, Don Scott, in a statement, “at a time when Trump and his allies are trying to consolidate power before voters have their say, Virginians have stepped up and levelled the playing field for the whole country.”
