Milan, 19 April (LaPresse) – Police General Yevheniy Zhukov has resigned from his post as head of the patrol police department of the Ukrainian National Police. This was reported by RBC-Ukraine. The decision to resign was taken following a scandal involving several patrol officers who arrived yesterday at the scene of the shooting in Kyiv and fled after the shots were fired. “As a serving officer, I have decided to submit a request to resign from my post. I believe it is the right thing to do,” Zhukov announced during a press conference regarding the shooting. Zhukov commented on the behaviour of the patrol officers during the shooting, describing it as “unprofessional and disgraceful”. “They took the wrong route and left injured civilians in danger,” he added, “a truly shameful incident. An official investigation will be conducted and all senior officers will be held accountable for these actions. All senior officers who are the superiors of these two police officers.”
