The incident was reported by Governor Kathy Hochul, who described it as a “senseless act of violence”. According to local broadcaster WPIX, citing an eyewitness, at least one of the injured was struck with a large knife described as a machete. NYPD officers reportedly intervened immediately, shooting the attacker. The police department, via an alert on X, urged travellers to avoid Grand Central Station on Saturday morning due to a police investigation and to expect delays and heavy traffic.
