Lebanon, Israel: "We will not discuss a ceasefire with Hezbollah in talks with Beirut"

Washington (USA), Apr. 11 (LaPresse) – The Israeli ambassador to the United States Yechiel Leiter said he informed his Lebanese counterpart, during their first phone call yesterday, that Israel is not ready for a ceasefire with Hezbollah, while continuing to negotiate with Lebanon. “In the conversation held today in Washington between the Israeli and Lebanese ambassadors, together with the US ambassador in Lebanon and under the auspices of the US State Department, Israel agreed to begin formal peace negotiations next Tuesday,” Leiter said in a statement. The Israeli ambassador to the United States Yechiel Leiter also stated that he told his Lebanese counterpart, during their first phone call held today, that Israel is not ready for a ceasefire with Hezbollah, while continuing to negotiate with Lebanon. “In the conversation held today in Washington between the Israeli and Lebanese ambassadors, together with the US ambassador in Lebanon and under the auspices of the US State Department, Israel agreed to begin formal peace negotiations next Tuesday,” Leiter said in a statement. Israel, however, refuses to discuss a ceasefire with the terrorist organization Hezbollah, which continues to attack Israel and is the main obstacle to peace between the two countries.
