Islamabad (Pakistan), 29 March (LaPresse/AP) – Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has stated that Islamabad will soon host talks between the United States and Iran. The minister did not specify whether the talks would be direct or indirect. There have been no statements on the matter so far from either the United States or Iran. “Pakistan is very pleased that both Iran and the United States have expressed their confidence in our role as facilitators” in the talks, which are to take place in the “coming days”, Dar said in a televised address following a meeting in Islamabad with the foreign ministers of Turkey, Egypt and Saudi Arabia. The ministers are expected to meet again on Monday. Pakistan has established itself as a mediator, boasting relatively good relations with both Washington and Tehran. Pakistani officials have stated that this public effort follows weeks of behind-the-scenes diplomacy.
