Milan, 21 March (LaPresse) – Any US military action against the Iranian island of Kharg could trigger a major escalation, including the undermining of security in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, as well as further attacks on regional energy infrastructure. This was reported by the Tasnim news agency, affiliated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, citing a military source. The source stated that should Washington follow through on its threats to invade the strategic oil hub, Iran would respond with measures “unprecedented” compared to developments over the last three weeks of the conflict. The source also warned that striking other strategic waterways, including the Bab al-Mandab Strait and the Red Sea, is among the options being considered by Iran and its allied forces, and threatened that an attack on Kharg could temporarily halt Iranian oil production and trigger retaliation against energy infrastructure across the region, increasing risks for global markets.
