Havana (Cuba), 21 March (LaPresse) – During his speech at a gathering held to welcome and thank the activists of the ‘Nuestra America Convoy’ in Havana, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel emphasised the need to develop a “plan to improve our people’s defence readiness”. This is a response to growing tensions with the United States, following the imposition of an energy blockade on the island: “The US President, in one of his statements, said that ‘we have applied all possible pressure on Cuba’. They are acknowledging that they have blockaded us.” A worsening of a situation which, according to Diaz-Canel, “was already serious” and which has therefore prompted the Cuban government to undertake this new plan, within a framework, the president emphasises, that is “defensive and not aggressive”. “This means defending the country: with the participation and preparedness of the entire population,” he concludes.
