EU, Costa: "Difficult moment for energy, the only way is autonomy and transition"

Brussels, Mar. 19 (LaPresse) – "No one can ignore that we are facing difficult times in the energy sector and that we must address this situation. The current conflict in Iran demonstrates this once again: the best way to ensure a predictable and reliable energy outlook is to increase domestic energy production. Only in this way can we become autonomous and independent, ensuring the security of our energy system. For this reason, we must pursue the energy transition, and this is our main task," said European Council President António Costa at his meeting of the European Council.

"Of course, we must do this taking into account the specificities of the different member states and certain energy-intensive economic sectors. But we must do it together, never forgetting that we should not only focus on protecting our companies today, but also ensure that future generations can continue to live on a sustainable planet. The environmental and climate goal is clear: energy means security, and we cannot and must not build our energy production capacity alone, because it is the only way to be secure," he emphasized.
