Milan, 15 March (LaPresse) – Two brothers, Elyasse H., 22, an engineering student, and his younger brother Moad, 20, unemployed, of Italian and Moroccan nationality, who arrived in France in 2017 after spending several years in Italy, have been arrested and an investigation has been opened against them on charges of criminal association of a terrorist nature, as well as the acquisition, possession and transport of Category B weapons and ammunition in connection with terrorist activity. This was announced by the French Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office (PNAT) in a press release. The events date back to 10 March, as reported by Le Figaro, when, at dawn, “officers from the Saint-Omer police station were patrolling the area following reports of a drone flying over Longuenesse prison”. During their patrol, “they checked a vehicle parked near the facility” and inside, behind the driver’s seat, they found “a loaded semi-automatic weapon with 9mm ammunition, a bottle of hydrochloric acid, aluminium foil and a flag of the Islamic State terrorist organisation”. The two brothers were also in the vehicle and were immediately arrested.
