Rome, Mar. 12 (LaPresse) – “I had a phone conversation with the president of Iraqi Kurdistan, Nechirvan Barzani. We expressed the firmest condemnation of the drone attack on the Italian base in Erbil, and agreed to stay in contact to clarify the dynamics. I reiterated Italy’s closeness in the face of the unacceptable attacks in Kurdistan and other areas of Iraq. I thanked Barzani for the assistance to our consulate in Erbil, also in facilitating the return of part of our staff. Continuing to guarantee the safety of our soldiers and our nationals is the absolute priority. I expressed appreciation for the balanced position of the Kurdish regional government, also in the face of tensions on the border with Iran: at this stage it is essential to use prudence and moderation to avoid a further escalation.” So wrote Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani on X.
