Frankfurt (Germany), 20 February (LaPresse) – German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has been re-elected as president of the CDU with 91.17% of the vote. In total, at the CDU congress in Stuttgart, 977 votes were cast, 0 were invalid, 14 abstained and 878 were in favour. This is a better result than in 2024, when Merz obtained 89.8%. Merz thanked the assembly for its “great trust” and accepted the election.
