NATO, Stoltenberg: ‘There may be differences in values, but common interests matter’

Munich (Germany), 15 February (LaPresse) – ‘The more we agree on values, the better. But fundamentally, what really matters when it comes to security is that we realise we have a common interest in protecting and defending each other.’ This was stated by Norwegian Finance Minister and former NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg at the Munich Security Conference. ‘Sometimes these issues are conflicting, and obviously there is a relationship between values and interests, but I believe that the history of NATO and its allies shows that there can be quite profound differences in values, but that we are still able to unite around our common interests,’ Stoltenberg added.
