Minneapolis (Minnesota), 12 February (LaPresse/AP) – The crackdown on immigration in Minnesota that led to mass detentions, protests and two deaths is coming to an end. This was announced by “border czar” Tom Homan. ‘As a result of our efforts, Minnesota is now one less sanctuary state for criminals,’ Homan said during a press conference. ‘I proposed, and President Trump agreed, that this extraordinary operation should come to an end,’ he added. The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) launched Operation Metro Surge on 1 December. Federal authorities say the operations, concentrated in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area, have led to the arrest of more than 4,000 people. Homan took over leadership of the operation in Minnesota in late January, after the second fatal shooting involving federal agents that led to the death of Alex Pretti.
