Tokyo (Japan), Feb. 8 (LaPresse/AP) – According to public broadcaster NHK and other major TV networks citing exit poll results, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s ruling coalition is almost certain to secure an absolute majority in the early parliamentary elections. NHK reports that Takaichi’s coalition, led by her Liberal Democratic Party, could win more than two-thirds of the 465 seats in the Lower House, the more powerful of Japan’s two parliamentary chambers. Takaichi took office in October as Japan’s first female leader.
