Madrid (Spain), 3 February (LaPresse) – Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has announced that the government will ban access to social networks for children under 16 and will oblige digital platforms to adopt effective systems to verify the age of users. The measure is part of a package of five measures announced by the socialist leader during the World Governments Summit in Dubai, aimed at combating abuse by large platforms and ensuring a safe, democratic digital environment that respects fundamental rights. The other measures announced by Sanchez are: ending the impunity of executives so that they are legally responsible for violations committed on the digital platforms for which they are responsible; classifying the manipulation of algorithms and the amplification of illegal content as a crime; creating a tracking and quantification system to establish a “hate and polarisation footprint”; working with the public prosecutor's office to investigate possible legal violations by Grok, TikTok and Instagram.
