Brussels, Jan 29 (LaPresse) – “We will adopt new sanctions on Iran, and I also expect that we will agree on including the Iranian Revolutionary Guard on the list of terrorists. This will put them on the same level as al-Qaeda, Hamas, and Daesh. If you act like a terrorist, you should also be treated like a terrorist.” This was said by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Kaja Kallas, upon her arrival at the Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels.
“It is clear what we see: the death toll and the protests in Iran, and the measures taken by the regime are really, really severe. That is why we are also sending a clear message: if you repress someone, there is a price to pay, and you will be sanctioned for it,” she emphasized.
How do we respond to concerns that including the Pasdaran among terrorists could affect the ability of European embassies to operate in Iran? “These risks have been calculated. The diplomatic side is outside of this Revolutionary Guard. Even interactions with the Foreign Minister do not fall within this sphere, so it is estimated that diplomatic channels will remain open even after the sanctions on the Revolutionary Guards,” she explained.
