Milan, 26 Jan. (LaPresse) – The Rafah crossing between Gaza and Egypt will reopen ‘only for pedestrian traffic’ and after the recovery of the body of the last hostage from the Strip. This was emphasised by the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a statement, reporting that the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) ‘are currently conducting a targeted operation’ to locate and recover the body of the last hostage in the Gaza Strip, Staff Sergeant Ran Gvili, and ‘upon completion of this operation, and in accordance with the agreement with the United States, Israel will open the Rafah crossing’. ‘As part of President Trump's 20-point plan, Israel has agreed to a limited reopening of the Rafah crossing for pedestrian traffic only, subject to a comprehensive Israeli inspection mechanism. The reopening of the crossing was contingent upon the return of all living hostages and Hamas's full commitment to locate and return all deceased hostages,’ the statement emphasised.
