Minneapolis, Obama: ‘Pretti's killing a wake-up call for every American’

Rome, 25 January (LaPresse) – The murder of Alex Pretti is a heartbreaking tragedy and should also be a wake-up call for every American, regardless of party, who realises that many of our core values as a nation are increasingly under attack. Former US President Barack Obama wrote this on social media. ‘Instead of trying to impose some form of discipline and accountability on the agents sent, the President and officials of the current administration seem eager to escalate the situation, offering public explanations for the killings of Mr. Pretti and Renee Good that are not based on any serious investigation and seem to be directly contradicted by video evidence,’ the former president added. "This must end. I hope that, after this recent tragedy, administration officials will reconsider their approach and begin to find ways to work constructively with Governor Walz and Mayor Frey, as well as state and local law enforcement, to avoid further chaos and achieve legitimate law enforcement goals," Obama emphasised. ‘In the meantime, every American should support and draw inspiration from the wave of peaceful protests in Minneapolis and elsewhere across the country. They are a timely reminder that, ultimately, it is up to each of us, as citizens, to speak out against injustice, protect our fundamental freedoms and hold our government accountable,’ he concluded.
