Iran, Time: up to 30,000 deaths in the first two days of protests

Washington (USA), Jan 25 (LaPresse) – According to the U.S. magazine Time, Iranian officials have estimated that up to 30,000 people may have been killed in just the first two days of the early January protests. The figure, cited by two senior anonymous officials from the Iranian Ministry of Health, would represent the highest reported death toll so far, far exceeding the 3,117 deaths officially reported by the Iranian government. Time notes that it cannot independently verify the data, but indicates that the estimate is consistent with the accounts of doctors and rescuers on the ground. According to the health authorities cited by the magazine, between January 8 and 9, 18-wheel trucks were used instead of ambulances, and body bags had run out.
