Dallas (Texas, USA), 24 January (LaPresse/AP) – Nearly 10,000 flights across the United States have been cancelled due to a violent snow and ice storm that threatens to devastate much of the country. According to the flight tracking website FlightAware, more than 3,600 flights scheduled for today and over 6,200 scheduled for Sunday have been cancelled. This morning, more than 95,000 power outages were reported across the country, including about 36,000 in Texas and another 10,000 in Virginia. Snow and sleet continued to fall in Oklahoma. After crossing the south, the storm is expected to move northeast, bringing about 30 centimetres of snow from Washington to New York and Boston, according to weather service forecasts. Temperatures reached -34 °C shortly before dawn in rural Lewis County and other parts of New York State after days of heavy snowfall.
