Turin, Jan. 23 (LaPresse) – Jury selection for the federal trial of Luigi Mangione will begin on September 8, Judge Margaret Garnett has announced, according to US media reports. If the judge excludes the death penalty as a possible sentence, the trial will begin on October 13. If the judge allows the case to proceed as a capital case, the trial will begin on January 11, 2027. Garnett is considering a request by the defense to exclude the death penalty. Mangione is accused of killing Brian Thompson, CEO of UnitedHealthcare, in Manhattan in December 2024. He was arrested a few days later at a McDonald's in Altoona, Pennsylvania.
