Davos (Switzerland), 22 January (LaPresse/AP) – Russian President Vladimir Putin received Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Moscow for a series of talks. The Russian leader recalled that ‘in 1988, the Soviet Union recognised the Palestinian state, and today we maintain the same position.’ ‘Our approach to Palestinian issues and the resolution of the Middle East conflict is based on principles, not opportunism,’ Putin said. ‘We believe that only the formation and proper functioning of the Palestinian state can lead to a definitive resolution of the Middle East conflict.’
