Greenland, Bild: ‘Germany withdraws troops from island’

Milan, 18 January. (LaPresse) – The German Armed Forces reconnaissance team is withdrawing from Greenland less than two days after its arrival. This was revealed by Bild, which spotted the 15 soldiers, led by Rear Admiral Stefan Pauly, at Nuuk Airport, ready to board an Icelandair Boeing 737 to return to Germany. The order to withdraw reportedly came from Berlin early this morning. No explanation was given to the troops. All scheduled appointments had to be cancelled urgently. Departure was scheduled for noon. The German soldiers therefore remained in Greenland for less than two days: 44 hours in total.
